Teethmares
Last night I dreamt
All my teeth fell outta my head
I was waiting in the wings of a high school play
Dressed to the T in Victorian stockings
Nobody seemed to know who I was
But they let me on stage cause I dressed for the job
And the crowd was filled with all these soccer mums
Waiting to see their daughters and sons
Then I stepped out all bearded and draggled
And of course my pants just fell at my ankles
But I looked at the script written on my arm
Thinking Jesus Christ the show must got on
But I opened my mouth and my teeth hit the floor
And all the girls just screamed and the mums all froze
Last night I dreamt
All my teeth fell outta my head

Still You

Still You
You could move to Dublin
You could fly to Spain
You could live in San Francisco
You could leave today
There’s so many things you could do
So why is it so hard to choose
The problem is I’m still in love with you
I lie in the bath
I sleep in the day
I leave the TV on
And it plays and it plays
There’s so many things I could do
So why is it so hard to move
The problem is I’m still in love with you
I see friends in the evening
I see friends and we talk
We sit in the garden and they offer support
They say there’s so many things you could do
It’s time now to start a-new
Well they don’t know that I’m still in love with you

Pelé Pelé
My body’s getting older
My belly is growing
But I like to lie in the bath at night
Watching old football highlights
Pelé had a silver touch
And he runs like a Lion
But it's Salah for me the Egyptian king
The underdog champion of the East
And I like to lay there
And hear the accents
And I like to remember when I was a kid
Going down to Dublin for the weekend
To see my Grandad
And watch TV
The Simpsons at six and the Weakest Link
Then football in the kitchen by the evening
And he liked to drink
And he liked to tell stories
Of Cromwell and the British and old Nazi history
Late into the evening in the kitchen
My body’s getting older
My belly is growing
But I like to lie in the bath at night
Watching old football highlights

Mulberry Bush
Spin me round the mulberry bush
Arm in arm left foot first
Close your eyes and count to three
Here we go
Cutting down a new road
There’s a long straight line straight ahead
My moneys down my bets are set
The bookie calls the final odds
The whistle blows
And they’re coming down a new road
Well you better hold on
The finders eyes are coming in
You better keep up
Brother the weight and veins are catching up
Well I did it for for the money
I did it for the fame
I did it for myself
I did it for a name
I did it despite my best intent
My fortitude
I did it cause I knew I could
Then heartbreak came in a long black car
I was alone drunk in the bath
She showered me down with a garden hose
Said find your clothes
Were cutting down a new road
Well you better hold on
The finders eyes are coming in
You better keep up
Brother the weight and veins are catching up

Allan
Bullhorn blows black anorak
Long day in wait bus shelter back
Feeling the daylight and its passing me by
Well I need to make time this evening to write
Spoke to my mother last night on the phone
Her birthday’s coming up and I’m gonna fly home
Spend a long weekend walk in the park
Meet her new boyfriend change the oil in her car
She told me that Dad has a house across town
He’s living with a girl, she’s from Amsterdam
Says she don’t see him, she couldn’t remember
Well I hope that I see him when I’m home in September
Then I fell asleep next to the phone
I love her more than I let her know
I love her more than I let her know
So bullhorn blows and the black crows appear
I heard uncle Allan’s getting out in a year
He’ll live with my Grandma out on the coast
At least that is what his lawyers have proposed
He’s been locked up for most of my life
He murdered a child in 1999
Soon he’ll transition to a halfway house
Were all coming to terms with him getting out
And I think about his son he is my cousin
I love him to death but I don’t see him often
I love him to death
So bullhorn blows black anorak
Long day in wait bus shelter back
Feeling the daylight and its passing me by
Well I need to make time this evening to write

Twist feat. Laura Quirke

Twist
Come twist your legs around me again
I'd like to see you in the evening
I'll leave at six o'clock
Get changed in the parking lot
And this is how you lose her in an hour
Boy your tale we've all heard before
But it's hard to see you sink into your ego
Yeah you better bet
That I've got you pegged
This is how you lose me in an hour
There's a thousand ways that I could be a man
But I'm walking in the footsteps of my dad
There's a blood stain on the carpet in our room
But I cannot seem to get it out for good
Last night I drove her around in your truck
Well I still owe your dad money on the insurance
We listened to Townes Van Zant
And my hand went up her dress
Tell me how you like me now
You look for praise when you hand me your mistakes
It's a weakness that I've always seen in you
Don't try to deceive me
You're no mystery to me
My deaf ears they fall heavy on you now
There's a thousand ways that I could be a man
But I'm walking in the footsteps of the past
There's a blood stain on the carpet in our room
But I cannot seem to get it out for good

One Hit Wonder
He draws kings in cardboard crowns
A silver lining
He likes books by Charles Bukowski
No surprises
Now he goes by an alter ego
Just to be cool
Just to be seen
He’s got all the Dylan albums
Tell me more
He wears hats and vintage clothing
Like a costume
He knows all the coolest people
All the soft-bois
All the labels
He says wine helps the writing
Still no album
He says soon he'll be discovered
I call
One hit wonder

Big Silly Heart

Big Silly Heart
My first date was at the big screen
With Ashley when we were 13
Her mother drove us after school
The ticket man found our seats
And we sat in silence awkwardly
And never spoke of it again
My big silly heart keeps falling in love
Walking around with my eyes wide shut
Cause ever since I can recall
My big silly hearts had a mind of its own
Later that year Lucy Jones
Took me down to the locker rooms
And we made out for about a minute
The news spread fast around the school
We denied it all the best we could
But I had to wash those girl germs off
My big silly heart keeps falling in love
Walking around with my eyes wide shut
Cause ever since I can recall
My big silly hearts had a mind of its own
Then I met Claire at a high-school rave
She gave me beer and MDMA
And all I did was talk about Led Zeppelin
I gave it a week and left her a call
But she told me that shed moved to Gibraltar
A classic rock pun I guess
My big silly heart keeps falling in love
Walking around with my eyes wide shut
Cause ever since I was a boy
My big silly hearts had a mind of its own
Then we got married in a thunderstorm
You were 22 and I was 21
Talk about omens all you want
Your sister found your flowers
And my father fixed my tie
And we danced until the morning light
My big silly heart keeps falling in love
Walking around with my eyes wide shut
Cause ever since I can recall
My big silly hearts had a mind of its own

Cacti
Tell me about your house in Ohio
Where were you born are you an only child
I want to hear about the places you’ve traveled
Publishing deals in bowling alleys
Show me the plants on your window sill
I’m happy to see that your cacti are well
Where did you find all this Chinese art
Was there a book that made you write
Cause I just want to spend my time with you
Lying in bed in the afternoon
We could sleep for hours in your room
Cause I just want to spend my time with you

Baby Steps
If I could only fly
I would set my sights right onto you
I would leave tonight
Float right out the window of this room
If I could drive I would
I’d drive across the ocean to you
There would be no one
No one who could stop me if I could
See last night I heard Evan
He was singing in my kitchen
This Blaze Foley song
To Sammy’s grandma through the phone
I was leaning against the counter
As he sang into the camera
“If I could only fly
I would bid this place goodbye”
I was struck right on my feet
What a journey this has been
Since flying out to JFK
to start this big adventure in the states
I remember eating pretzels
And staring out the plane
To a world I’d only seen
In films and magazines
Tony Hawk and California
Vanna White and the Wheel of Fortune
And Elvis in his tassels drinking 7up at the piano
I was stolen by it all
I was captured by the dream
Of the greatest infomercial
the world has ever seen
But I found you here
I found love and I found a family
For 7 years we never walked alone
I felt the love of all of you around me
Well its baby steps
It's a standing start but you gotta go
When Evan was in that kitchen
I felt the tiny power of a song
Fill and hold the air
These things we tell ourselves
This life is such a mystery
Were here and then were gone
But through the harshness of it all
Somehow the mystery carries on
I still believe in magic
I still believe in dreams
Still believe in the eternal
Calculations of the world
But its baby steps
Its a pregnant pause but we’ll start again
All past preparations thrown into the wash
Keep family around you
Be good to the ones you love
There light is not a given
And it's such a shame its not
Surround yourself with people
Who laugh and pick you up
Who care and hold you close
Who love to play Blaze Foley songs
If I could only fly
